Blogging as an Educational Tool

Can you brainstorm one or two ideas for how you would use blogging as an educational tool?

  1. I would use blogging as an educational tool to share my own ideas, as well as learn from others. I think its a great way to learn about how others teach and receive feedback from my peers. It is also nice to ask academic/homework questions on a blog as well.

  2. I would use blogging to have students discuss and collaborate on a class project or maybe to use as a way students could write about any questions that they have about the class and the topics we are going over.

  3. You could use blogging to log reading assignments and to check if your students are using online resources in their homework, copy and pasting links, giving summaries or to make sure they have an idea of how the internet works in general.

  4. Blogging can be used as an educational tool for science(writing out the procedure of a lab) It can also be used for an open ended discussion on a reading or book assignment.

  5. One good reason to blog is to see others ideas if you are stuck on the question or problem presented. This can help students brain storm ideas or create other ideas off of another student response. Another good reason is to have kids become used to the computer and learn about this educational tool so it can help them when they are in high school and college.

  6. After reading a book, a class could share ideas on what the lesson of the book was. A blog written on that could be posted for them to see. It could open their minds to other ideas.

  7. Blogging can be used in many different ways. For example: if a class is reading a book, they can use blogging to take on the role of one of the characters in the book and write about what they may do next as the character or how they feel about the decisions their character has made.

  8. One way to use blogging as an educational tool would be to create a blog that informs parents of activities going on in their child's classroom. The blog I would create would inform parents of activities going on in the classroom and the overall growth of the students in my class. Also I can use blogging as a way for students to gain more knowledge on a certain subject. Blogging is another alternative for students to learn more about a certain subject and to receive feedback from fellow students. Blogging will help students think logically about a subject and learn from their fellow classmates on certain subject matters.

  9. I would have students during a history lesson write blog entries about famous historical figures such as Anne Frank, Martin Luther King Jr., etc. I might also use a blog to have students come up with stories together, this way they can help each other with basic grammar, as well as bounce creative ideas off of each other. Blogging could also help students help each other with difficulties they might be experiencing individually which I might not get through to them and a peer might explain the idea in a way they can understand.

  10. Blogging can be an influential part of a classroom lesson plan. Many students today are using technology to explain their thought processes and complete homework. Blogging is a place where all of the students ideas and opinions can be published so the whole class can learn from each other. Blogs can also open up a class discussion that shows the view points of each person. I feel that the most learning comes from each other and blogging is a large part of that learning.

  12. Blogging could let students reflect on eachother's ideas and also expand on ideas already presented. Also it is a fun interactive way for students to become educated.

  14. You can use blogging to expand nightly homework for example if in science class you are learning the phases of them moon you can have them blog about what they noticed about the moon and what the sky looked like, also they can blog about weather. Blogging can also be used for reading assignments if they read an article/or watch and educational short video they can blog about their opinions and reflections on the articles and they can see view other students ideas and reflections.

  16. I would use blogging as an educational tool so that students can reflect on what they have previously learned in class. This would allow them to also read other students' responses and feed off of what the other students have learned. I would also use blogging as an educational tool so that the students' parents know what's going on in class and it will help the parents help their child study/learn.

  17. The benefits of using blogging as a classroom tool would be that students will be able to bounce ideas off of each other and in turn would help them grasp concepts a lot more easily. Most children are afraid to speak out in class and voice what they are thinking and to have them process their thoughts on the internet they may feel more comfortable. For example, if your students are reading a book and are analyzing characters and their behaviors, it may be beneficial to post it in a blog because the students will probably gain ideas by listening to others.

  19. Students in a science class will be presented with a question or an observation that we agree on as a group, they will then be asked to form theories and develop experiments to test the theories. After the entire class has posted these things in their blog we will go through the individual ideas online and decide as a group which experiment we will want to actually conduct in the classroom.

After we have performed the actual experiment and collected real data, students will use their blog to share the results.

  20. Blogging could be used as a way for students to communicate and share their ideas outside of the classroom. It would also allow them the opportunity to further reflect on the topics discussed in class.

  21. Blogging can be used as an educational tool by having the teacher or the professor post a question or an assignment for students to blog about, have them post a response and everyone can compare answers and see which one makes the most sense. That ties into my other idea that if a student misses a class, he or she can blog about what their answer can be to that question or assignment.

  23. Blogs can be used as a learning tool. A teacher could assign a reading assignment and then have each student post one or two paragraphs of their thoughts on the reading. This can then be evaluated for reading comprehension and creative expression.
There can also be an application to current events. In relation to the historic 9/11, accessibility to information could have been enhanced by listed webpages on a blog with the added benefit of providing a seemingly interactive environment.

  24. Blogs can be used as a learning tool to either present a fact or an opinion.

Facts with pictures, videos, and other forms of media (along with references) can & are posted on a regular basis to learn about or help with anything one would possibly want to know. For example, I look at blogs on a regular basis when I look for instructions on how to accomplish a technological challenge.

Opinions can also be attached to the same forms of media (still, along with references where applicable) in order to create closure to loose ends, predict what the future holds, or to simply debate a situation coming from anyone or anywhere. Usually opinions don't interest me, however when someone makes various connections to a situation and it seems to hold a final answer to something big or a key clue to something big, that can spark my interest.

  25. There are numerous ways that blogging can be used as an educational tool. For me I believe I would use a blog as an information site for my students and their parents/guardians. On Mondays I would put what will be going on in the classroom for that week and any important announcements the parents need to be aware of. This allows them to check either that Monday to see what’s going on or mid-week. Not every parent has time to be constantly glued to the computer and reading what is going on in their child’s class. Then if the parents have any questions or comments they can post them right there and I can respond. This makes it easier when its 7 at night and they can’t call the school to ask me a question they can post it there and I can respond. This is a very efficient way of keeping parents informed as to what is going on, and it saves paper which is a big thing schools are advocating! Another thing I might use the blog for is for students to use. I believe I might have them write every once in a while a little blog or a story about something. I will most likely give the parents a link so they can see what their child is writing and I will even allow the kids during class time to look at each other’s writing and comment on them. This will even promote giving constructive criticism and positive feedback about what they write. The blog will even link the students with the technological world which is also an important task in education today.

  26. From blogging you can read other peoples idea's to gather more knowledge on something.

  27. Blogging can be used as an educational tool because it allows for feedback from peers, expanding your views or pointing them in different directions, giving you more to think about.

  28. I would use blogging in order to read others' views and perspectives on topics. Bloggs enable you to write what you think and feel. Blogging also allows others to reply to what you say, so it encourages response and discussion.

  29. I would use blogging to expand the creativity of my students through different methods. Perhaps have eash student post a short story on their bog and have eachother comment on it and brainstorm some ideas. Each of them could express their own opinions while helping one student think of ideas they may not have thought of by themselves.

  30. I would use blogging to interate with my students and other teachers. I think it is a great way to allow students to interact with eachother by connecting ideas and thought with their peers. I would also enjoy reading and learning from the students conversations with others as well as my own. It is important that students learn to share how they feel about a certain topic and what they have learned and blogging is a fun, easy way to do that.

  31. Blogging can be very useful as an educational tool. It can be a fun way to integrate learning in forms of feedback from other students on their ideas instead of it just being the teacher commenting. It can open up conversations through a diverse community within classmates because every student has a different background. You can have blogs about real life occurrences and things that are happening in the present and students seem to learn better when they can relate learning to what is happening in their life.

  32. I would use blogging in my classroom. It is a good way to get students to connect outside the classroom. They can ask questions as well as help out their fellow classmates. It can bring the students closer together. Blogging can also be fun for the children. If assignments are on a blogger, the students would be more apt to want to do their homework.

  33. I would use blogging as kind of like a group activity type of deal or a type of online class discussion. post a question online and let students share and compare answers with their peers to come up with best answer. But think blogging would be most effective used in say a math class. posting a problem online and the showing how to solve it step by step, then letting answering questions as they come in via the blog

  34. I would use in-class blogging as a way for my students to build off of each other’s ideas. Viewing responses to an assignment could also help some kids work out their own misunderstandings. By viewing other student’s comments they would be able to adjust their own work and make improvements. However I still feel one on one help is the best way to help students when needed.
