Watch the video below on energy. Think about how this teacher improved or didn't improve the message he was trying to get across. Was this means of communication effective for the audience (students)?
I think that the teacher did a good job conveying the message to his students. I think that the short video with the pictures helped the kids understand what solar energy was and how it is transferred from the sun to the plants to the cow to us. As long as the teacher explained more after or before the video and didn't just use this as the lesson, I think that this was a pretty effective, creative, and fun way for the younger students to understand what energy is.
The teacher did a good job communicating his message to his audience. He didn't add an overwhelming amount of details. It seemed like it was just enough to make sure his message came across clearly and effectively. The pictures definitely helped. I liked the fact that they were drawn out because it makes it more fun for children to watch and understand.
I believe the teacher used an effective way to get a message across to his students. The video was informative; it clearly described the sun gives off solar energy. His video was very engaging because of the background music, as well as his use of pictures that show examples of what he is talking about. As Brittany stated above, this video clip is a good general overview. He would most likely need to get into more specific details about solar energy afterwards. I also like how the teacher repeated the main point of the video at the beginning and end of the clip. It is important that children are reminded of the big ideas throughout the lesson.
I think the teacher did a pretty solid job in conveying his message to his students. He got his point across clearly without over saturing his presentation with extra information, he made it so everyone got just what he was saying and then just safe he outlined his main points at the conclusion. I also thought the pictures were a nice touch especially for children showing the process piece by piece, step by step
This teacher did a great job of keeping his lesson interactive and chances are his students were engaged in the lesson because it provided them with colorful images in a way that they would understand. The video is better than him sitting in the classroom lecturing where his students may doze or have tunnel vision where they're paying attention but not retaining information. He did a very good job of conveying the cycle and the benefits that the sun gives us on Earth.
Although very well made and factual I think this video may be too confusing for younger students (I am assuming this video was intended for grade school children). The reaction of air and water in the presence of solar energy (photosynthesis) or digestion of fats and protein to produce milk is a bit more complex than stated. I think a more appropriate presentation of one or two of the ways solar energy; such as how it heats and lights the earths surface. would be more age appropriate.
I feel the teacher created a video that would successfully get the message across to students regarding how important solar energy is to our world. It would be very educational to younger viewers & I believe it would possibly give the older students an interest on the mechanics of how the solar panels and solar energy work from a scientific perspective as science interest is growing.
I feel that the teacher had an effective means of communication for his students. It was a fun and creative way to show how the sun gives energy. If a student just read this lesson in a book, he might not understand it as well. This video gave an explanation along with visuals that will help the students understand the subject.
I felt as though this teacher chose an effective & alternative way to teach this topic. The use of visuals plus the teacher's explaination may help the students to better understand the subject instead of simply reading from a text book. The video was informative, allowing the viewer to focus on the main points & get an overview of the topic.
I think the teacher did a great job communicating the effects of solar energy on every aspect of our lives. The video was a creative way to interest the students and help them understand. The material was presented simply so that the students could understand where solar energy is absorbed and released. If the material was only presented in lecture form a lot of the students would be confused. The use of technology was a benefit for the students and this lesson.
This video had a good way of explaining how energy is produced. The images were very easy to understand and follow which would be good for younger students. The only thing I worry about is if the student will get exactly what is going on. The information was good but was explained in a fast pace so some students might not have understood what was happening. The images are definitely a key part in communicating this presentation to younger students.
I feel that the teacher did present the information in an effective way for his students. The simple pictures and wording along with the repetitiveness made the information easier to understand. Also, the real world applications, such as showing that the solar energy goes to the grass which cows eat etc., made it so younger students can grasp the meaning easier. Altogether I thought that this presentation was well put together and would work nicely for younger students.
Being a very visual learner myself I really enjoyed this video about the sun and solar energy. The creator of this video did a great job of using pictures as a way of describing how milk and firewood get energy from the sun. The use of arrows allowed me to see the connection between the sun and the earth and what was being transmitted. The images used were very creative and were very easy to follow. The voice during the video did not talk to fast so it was easy to understand. This is a great alternative for students that learn in a more visual way rather then reading about it or listening to a certain topic. Overall I enjoyed the video and the way technology was used to portray the lesson.
The information that the teacher presented clever, majority of the students will be able to visually grasp the concept of solar energy. The teacher spoke in a very basic voice for each picture which made the information comprehendible for young students.
I thought that the video was very clever and a unique way to teach the lesson. However, I felt at times that music had a tendency to be a little bit distracting. Also, the part about the cow and the milk seemed a little bit jumbled and hard to understand. I felt the use of technology was very effective in conveying the lesson, which was obviously about Solar Power. I think the repetition of the vocabulary spoken in the video and visually seen in type is a good way to learn the words. I don't believe that this should be the only way that this lesson is taught but would be a great and fun introduction to a new unit. With a little bit of fine tuning it has the potential to be a great video!
This teacher made this presentation effective by using the diagrams and the entrances of the arrows pointing to what exactly he is explaining. I feel that if he made this video a little longer than what it is he would lose the students attention. He got his information out in a decent amount of time with making it effective. However, he could have changed his tone of voice to make certain parts more interesting than others. Even music could spice up this presentation just a little bit, so that students will stay interested and focused throughout the video.
I think that using a video with animation is an effective way to keep students engaged and interested in the material. I also think that by using visuals, the material becomes easier to remember, rather than just trying to remember what the teacher verbally said. I do think that the explanations in the video were a little drawn out which made it drag along a little bit but it might have been so that the students could take notes while watching. I definitely think this is a more effective method of teaching complicated subjects so the students can have a visual to go along with what they are learning.
I find it interesting that some thought it was too long and others too short. Some thought it was just right. There's an example of different learning styles.
I believe the video was a positive way and successful way to integrate technology into his lesson. Being a visual learner myself I think he found an effective way to keep the students engaged in the lesson and came up with a creative way to teach his lesson. However as an educator he must know that this can't be the only way he gets his lesson across, he needs to accommodate all kinds of learners where I believe other types of technology could have been integrated.
I think the idea behind this video was definitely a good one and could have been a very effective tool for learning. However, I felt the video itself was a little bit boring due to the images that were used. The images seemed like mostly drawings that were used repeatedly which made the pictures not very interesting to look at. The information in the video was very good, but I think some better pictures would have definitely enhanced the video.
I think the message portrayed in this film was clear for the audience to understand. He used repetition and simple images to help improve conveying his message. By using simple images that only contained specifically what he was talking about there was no room for the student to get distracted. I also think by writing the words on the screen as he was saying them throughout the film, along the way repeating most, was a great way for the reader to pick up on the main message about solar energy. I think his means of communication was very effective.
I thought this was a very effective way through communicating about solar energy because it showed images as it talks about solar energy to help you have a better understanding. Seeing the pictures and hearing it helps learn and understand the concept easier.
I feel that this teacher did a good job of communicating the lesson of solar energy to their students. The teacher used a lot of pictures to help have a general understanding of what it is. The video was simple. The teacher that displayed the work did not make it long and hard to understand.
This video on solar energy was effective. He made the video colorful as well as added music and text. He made it very clear that he was talking about solar energy. He kept repeating the words "solar energy". He also had an animation or image for everything he was speaking about.
I feel the teacher definitely did convey his message to his students. As a visual learner, it was easy for me to grasp and understand. It was very easy to follow, not too fast and reinforcing his statements by repeating them in a different way helped. Repetition works wonders when learning something new and I feel he did a good job; just enough. He was even able to touch upon aspects of solar energy; where it comes, how we use it and how it keeps us happy. Overall I feel he did a good job intergrading technology and getting his message across to his students.
The teacher has clearly stated the message to the students. Since i am a visual learner it was easy for me to understand what was being taught. He was able to touch upon all aspects of solar energy, how we use it, where it comes form, and how we all stay happy.
As i was watching the video i felt like very distracted by very fast given information. But i can say that this teacher is really into the technology user but the thing is that there were many pictures and i liked the way of describing the solar energy. Also the other thing that i liked about the video was the way teacher related everything step by step making connection with everyday life. the teacher made te viedo very colorful for having total attention of the children but at the same time for me would be a little distracting for younger children. I also think that this was a good way to incorporate the technology into the lesson and it is very successful for visual leraners. If the student read this lesson in book they might not understand it.
This video is effective if utilized appropriately. A teacher may use this video to introduce the concept of solar energy, which will later be further explained and explored through the use of guided learning. However, I would recommend that the background music of this clip be removed. Students with attention deficit disorders or learning disabilities may find that this music distracts them from the lesson and thereby inhibits them from gaining the most knowledge from this video as possible. Overall, I find that this video clip is a useful way to integrate technology in the classroom in order to introduce a new core curriculum subject area; however, it should not be used as a learning tool due to its lack of details and clear explanation of solar energy. Nevertheless, many videos are helpful to incorporate into a classroom especially for auditory and visual learning styles.
Through my use of Pinterest, I have discovered Khan Academy, an example of exceptional informative videos which can be accessed through its website http://www.khanacademy.org/about. These videos are beginning to be utilized in classrooms throughout the country and is pioneering the idea of self-taught students who learn lesson outside the classroom through the use of these videos and then practice these acquired skills in the school setting with the assistance of a teacher instead of at home in the form of homework. This concept truly illustrates the power of technology in education.
I think this video is great for students. The creator spoke very slowly and clearly, which is great because it allows students to think and grasp what he's saying at a natural pace. What I really like is how he was very repetative, saying "Solar Energy" and what it is many times in the video so you don't forget it. He also states the importance of solar energy very effectively, and all that it does, which I believe was the idea of the video. He definitely succeeded in improving the message he was trying to get across because of all of these reasons and more. Another great thing about this video that would capture students attention was all the imagery. It was easier for me to understand this way, and so I feel as if it would be easier for students also. The pictures made it very simplistic, and more interesting to watch. When trying to appeal to a young audience, all of these elements are extremely important. I believe this video could affectively teach students about the purpose and importance of solar energy.
I think the teacher was clear in getting the point across to the intended audience. I feel that providing the visual of each step he discussed helped alot because having a picture makes things easier to understand, like using a map for directions. I'm one of those people who needs a visual rather than just words alone. The importance was to discover all the solar energy the sun provides, who needs and/or uses it, and what it's used for.
I believe the overall idea of the video was very unique and different. However I believe that one thing within the video could have been changed to make this video more effective in getting the message across. I think that the background music was a little distracting to the overall video. If the music were slower and quieter as opposed to upbeat there would be less focus on the music. Besides the music I think that the images the teacher uses was nice. It made it look like the teacher put a lot of effort into making this video. This shows the students that he/she cares about what they are learning and wants them to understand what they are teaching. I think introducing the subject in the beginning and then almost repeating that same idea in the end was a good move as well. It helped make all the information stick and that solar energy makes people happy and the sun produces light and heat which are forms of solar energy. This is what students tend to know about the sun, it is a ball of gas that produces heat and light, but what they now know is that is what solar energy is.
I liked this video because it made connection to real life situations. Instead of just droning on about the sun he made connections to food, fire, and electricity. These are real life items that the audience can relate to. The video itself was very simple and could play well to a young audience. The repeatitive message was very effective. I thought it used a creative way to deliver the message.
I think this video was well done. It breaks the topic down and he uses terms that younger students can understand. The colors were bright and it looks like the drawings in the video were done by children. The images make it less intimidating to learn a topic that can be very complex. Its length of time was perfect. It was straight to the point and taught what it was supposed to.
I think this teacher did a great job on trying to get his message across to his students. Personally, I believe that making a video on a tricky topic like solar energy is a great way for students to visually see how we get energy from the sun. Although the pictures were drawn and the music was a bit repetitive, I feel this video could easily and more effectively get across to young students than a classroom lecture would. His examples of how we get energy from the sun to make milk and firewood took a complex topic and made understandable because they were explained with a very basic vocabulary to not cause confusion. Overall I think the use of technology in the classroom definitely helped his students to learn about solar energy and it was an effective form of communication
I think this video really helped get the teachers point across. This video allowed him to break down what he wanted the kids to get from the video into simple parts. This video also allowed the teacher to hit many different ways there are to learn. In the video there was visual learning, oral learning and there were things that made it easy for the kids to relate to what there learning.
This video was clear, concise and broken down nicely which makes understanding easier for the students. this is a difficult subject to teach and to learn and i think this video will be very effective. I personally benefit more from visual learning and the video provided great pictures as well as the voices talking you through the steps. This video will make it easier for students to understand how important the sun is and how much we benefit from it. Teaching a lesson is different than telling a lesson. This teacher was not simply telling students what he wanted them to know he was teaching them by explaining to them how the sun effects them and their families/houses every day. This teacher took a difficult subject and broke it down into a way that even i enjoyed watching and better understood the importance of solar energy. I am a huge fan of this technique of teaching and i will definitely keep this video in mind when teaching my students!
I believe that this video really must have helped to get Mr. Thompson's point across to his students. He went across giving his message in a clear way, with many easy to understand visuals that I think students who are more visual learners will really be able to better understand the concept of solar energy. The bright colors also helped to give it a posititve feel which may help to ease some students who may have been nervous when they did not fully understand the concept when explained t them in their textbooks.
I think the teacher got his points across clearly and effectively. He seemed to go through more of a step by step process at explaining the sun and solar energy. I think students would be able to understand the information presented easily. The images are perfect for children. I wasn't a fan of the music too much, but it was fine for background music. I think the video probably worked perfectly for his students.
The video gets the teachers points across with facts, but it does not get the students to interact with the lesson what so ever. Instead of the teacher just stating that their are different types of solar energy, and different ways that it can be used, the teacher could have improved it by having the students think outside of the box with what they thought ways were, or what the students thought that different things looked like. The teacher also needs to look out for different types of learners because me as a student, i would have been bored and not gotten the full message because nothing was hands on or interactive with me. The overall informathion was great, but the teacher should have interacted more with the students.
I think the teacher did a good job at getting his information to the students. He talked it through in a step by step process, and he talked slow enough so that the students could really understand what he was trying to say. I liked the pictures that he had because I am a visual learner and it helped me understand what he was talking about. Overall I think the video worked and I think the students would have been able to follow what he was saying.
Overall I feel that this teacher, Mr.Thompson, got his lesson across on solar energy effectively to his students. I really liked how each fact wasn't rushed into the next, he took his time with providing information which allowed the viewer time to comprehend everything. Not only did the constant slow pace of the lesson get his point across, but also the pictures. Although not professionally drawn, the cartoon pictures definitely helped put a clear image in the students mind for them to refer back to. This would be especially helpful for those students who are more visual with their learning. Finally, I also like his repetition of repeating the definition and main points of solar energy not just in the beginning, but in the end as well. When he first started talking about solar energy and its main purpose in the beginning, I was even a little lost with what was going on. After going through his whole clip though when he once again repeated the definition, I truly felt like I learned something because the definition made a lot more sense after his whole presentation.
I think the video started off very well it was very clear with the idea being that the sun gives off heat and light for the Earth. I think the author did a good job of getting his point across but the message was a bit confusing in the middle. If I was alittle lost I can imagine that a class would be confused as well. I think there was just too many pictures trying to explain one point with the cow and the farm and that exerting solar energy. But I thought the end of the video was perfect because he re stated the definition and tied the video together. To make the video more effective for children in maybe 4th or 5th grade, I would change the pictures to real pictures of the sun, the cow and so on to make it look more realistic. However, the auditory piece to this video was very clear and precise and the children would be able to listen without getting confused.
The video gave some good visuals to go along with its information. By using arrows the video may prevent confusion among higher grade classes. Since the pictures changed often during the film I wouldn't want to play it for a lower grade class. I might use something similar in a 4th grade class, but the changing images might confuse younger kids. That being said the video also left no time for student interactions. To change that, I might create a PowerPoint that had visuals and questions to see if the class was understanding the material as it was being presented.
Over all this video gave very good information, and was able to show concrete evidence referring to the topic of solar energy. Mr. Thompson showed images from how the sun grew the grass, to the cow eating it to how it ended up being in the milk that we drink. Some of the arrows and images may be a little to much going on and the slides weren’t kept long enough for everything to be understood for an elementary school child. I would leave the slide longer and take a few of the pictures out and try to use the same images so they see them repeatedly to associate them together.
TV/movies/media get a lot of bad press because they move too quick and children are so used to moving at this speed. Some even blame ADHD on media. Some shows like Dora, Diego and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse have longer intentional pauses that allow students to answer questions and think.
I thought Mr. Thompson's video about solar energy was very informative. He spoke in a manner that students at the elementary level would understand and respond well to. He used images and examples that children can relate to. I think he was effective in communicating the lesson, however I would change a few things about the video. Although Mr. Thompson used colorful images made with the computer program Paint, I personally got a little bored with the images. I think he would have been even more effective in his lesson if he had incorporated some real life images of cows or grass or milk, just to make the video stand out a little more and to add a little more creativity. I also would have asked some questions throughout the video to get the children involved, instead of just stating facts the entire time. Overall I think Mr. Thompson did a great job communicating his lesson on solar energy; but I would have changed a few things if I was communicating the lesson to my class.
I found Mr. Thompson's video extremely helpful. It was a fun way to give information, and was very attention grabbing. It's use of bright colors and music brought attention right to the video and draws students in. I think it would be good for a middle level class, such as 4th or 5th grade, because some arrows may confuse others. Although I thought the music was a good addition, I found it difficult to focus on what he was saying during the video. I think the video could have been more interactive to help kinesthetic learners.
I think that Mr. Thompson's video is very helpful to children. This kind of information can get confusing when young, so putting pictures to words and drawing it out like that can really be helpful. I like how he used arrows and printed the words along with saying them at the same time. I think that will help stick the facts to the kids. He did a good job explaining it in easier terms and fitting them with the pictures. And at the end he repeated the main idea over again, which always helps remember what you learned.
I thought that Mr. Thompson's video about solar energy was very informative for students. It used a lot of elements in which students should be able to keep their attention on. I suppose it all depends on the age group however as I can see that it's possible for some students to like it other than others. I would change some of the ideas if I was demonstrating it to a class but for the most part the video was O.K.
I believe that the teacher did an effective job presenting and illustrating his message to the students. This video was very informative and engages you into his lesson. This video uses many different elements and pictures to teach the students about solar energy. I thought that when Mr. Thompson played background music in the video could or could not be a good aspect. Although, some kids do enjoy the music and it will draw in more attention, some students can not concentrate with music playing. In the video he clearly described step by step about solar energy. Mr. Thompson also used many different colors and themes to grab the child's attention. His video was very helpful for children and I believe that he gets his information out in a effective way. He explained in detail and easier terms for the younger children to understand.
The solar energy video was effective in reinforcing the points that Mr. Thompson wanted to make. He takes the time to outline the chain of events that occurs in the conversion process from factors like the sun or a plant to the production of heat and light. He constantly repeats his definition with the effect of hopefully reinforcing it. I'm not sure what age group is targeted in this project but if they are younger it certainly can't hurt to be repetitive. The visual graphics should help to leave some mental picture with the class when making an association with the topic of energy.

DeleteI thought this was a very effective way through communicating about solar energy because it showed images as it talks about solar energy to help you have a better understanding. Seeing the pictures and hearing it helps learn and understand the concept easier.
ReplyDeleteI feel that this teacher did a good job of communicating the lesson of solar energy to their students. The teacher used a lot of pictures to help have a general understanding of what it is. The video was simple. The teacher that displayed the work did not make it long and hard to understand.
ReplyDeleteThis video on solar energy was effective. He made the video colorful as well as added music and text. He made it very clear that he was talking about solar energy. He kept repeating the words "solar energy". He also had an animation or image for everything he was speaking about.
ReplyDeleteI feel the teacher definitely did convey his message to his students.
ReplyDeleteThe teacher has clearly stated the message to the students. Since i am a visual learner it was easy for me to understand what was being taught. He was able to touch upon all aspects of solar energy, how we use it, where it comes form, and how we all stay happy.
ReplyDeleteAs i was watching the video i felt like very distracted by very fast given information.
ReplyDeleteThis video is effective if utilized appropriately.
ReplyDeleteThrough my use of Pinterest, I have discovered Khan Academy, an example of exceptional informative videos which can be accessed through its website http://www.khanacademy.org/about.
DeleteThanks for showing us another side of the video.
DeleteI think this video is great for students.

ReplyDeleteI believe the overall idea of the video was very unique and different.
ReplyDeleteI liked this video because it made connection to real life situations. Instead of just droning on about the sun he made connections to food, fire, and electricity. These are real life items that the audience can relate to. The video itself was very simple and could play well to a young audience. The repeatitive message was very effective. I thought it used a creative way to deliver the message.
ReplyDeleteA connection to real life is important. Students are always asking why do I need to learn this?
DeleteI think this video was well done. It breaks the topic down and he uses terms that younger students can understand. The colors were bright and it looks like the drawings in the video were done by children. The images make it less intimidating to learn a topic that can be very complex. Its length of time was perfect. It was straight to the point and taught what it was supposed to.
ReplyDeleteI like your point that the images make the topic less intimidating. I never thought of it like that before.
ReplyDeleteI think this teacher did a great job on trying to get his message across to his students.
ReplyDeleteI think this video really helped get the teachers point across. This video allowed him to break down what he wanted the kids to get from the video into simple parts. This video also allowed the teacher to hit many different ways there are to learn. In the video there was visual learning, oral learning and there were things that made it easy for the kids to relate to what there learning.
ReplyDeleteThis video was clear, concise and broken down nicely which makes understanding easier for the students. this is a difficult subject to teach and to learn and i think this video will be very effective.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this video really must have helped to get Mr.
ReplyDeleteI think the teacher got his points across clearly and effectively. He seemed to go through more of a step by step process at explaining the sun and solar energy. I think students would be able to understand the information presented easily. The images are perfect for children. I wasn't a fan of the music too much, but it was fine for background music. I think the video probably worked perfectly for his students.
ReplyDeleteThe video gets the teachers points across with facts, but it does not get the students to interact with the lesson what so ever.
ReplyDeletegood points
ReplyDeleteI think the teacher did a good job at getting his information to the students. He talked it through in a step by step process, and he talked slow enough so that the students could really understand what he was trying to say. I liked the pictures that he had because I am a visual learner and it helped me understand what he was talking about. Overall I think the video worked and I think the students would have been able to follow what he was saying.
ReplyDeleteOverall I feel that this teacher, Mr.Thompson, got his lesson across on solar energy effectively to his students.
ReplyDeleteInteresting point, repeating at the end made you realize you learned something...
DeleteI think the video started off very well it was very clear with the idea being that the sun gives off heat and light for the Earth.
ReplyDeleteThe video gave some good visuals to go along with its information.
ReplyDeletenice to hear an alternative perspective
DeleteOver all this video gave very good information, and was able to show concrete evidence referring to the topic of solar energy.
ReplyDeleteTV/movies/media get a lot of bad press because they move too quick and children are so used to moving at this speed. Some even blame ADHD on media. Some shows like Dora, Diego and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse have longer intentional pauses that allow students to answer questions and think.
DeleteI thought Mr.
ReplyDeleteGood ideas
DeleteI found Mr.
ReplyDeleteHow would you have made it interactive?
DeleteI think that Mr.
ReplyDeleteI thought that Mr.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the teacher did an effective job presenting and illustrating his message to the students.
ReplyDeleteThe solar energy video was effective in reinforcing the points that Mr.
